Citrus Parks and Recreation Expands
Pet Patrol
into Sports Marketing
The Parks and Recreation Department within the Board of County Commissioners
is moving in a new direction. The department is reorganizing - focused on bringing new
and exciting events to Citrus County. The focus has shifted - to not only revitalize events
citizens are used to, but expanding into more sports related events. Staff is striving to
bring national tournaments to the area such as lacrosse, soccer, softball, fishing and baseball.
Cheerleading, BMX and 4-H Drill team competitions could also be in the future. These
types of events and tournaments will draw tourism revenue into our county and not only
help the Parks and Recreation Department, but also our local hotels, shops and restaurants.
With Parks and Recreation staff working in the direction of sports tourism, current
programs have been reviewed to find out which are being duplicated throughout our com-
munity. Over the past few years, the Parks and Recreation Department has been competing
with the YMCA and the Boys and Girls Clubs with summer camps. Staff has met with
Joanna Castle, Executive Director of the YMCA, and she has graciously agreed to take over
the Parks & Recreation program called “Camp Fusion” beginning this summer (May 2013).
“AnnaBelle is a gorgeous little 8#, 6 yo,
