things. The sign now reflects that and reads Seafood/ Barbeque. There’s also a new thing
called the bar menu available only at the bar which includes Sliders and my favorite, really
good hot dogs.
For years the Sunrise Outpost was kind of Yankeetown’s version of “Cheers”, a
place where everyone knew your name. It drew a lot of Yankeetown locals because it fos-
tered socializing more than traditional places where people rarely leave their tables. Every-
one at Frank and Gracie’s table hops, wanders around and kibitzes. The Outpost tried their
hand at the kayak rental business for a while which explains the very creative mail box in
the front but they no longer have that aspect of their business and sold all the kayaks. Every
now and then they would throw a great party, setting up a band and a bar outside. People
would bring lawn chairs and just enjoy the music. Gracie is scoping out bands and thinking
of doing something like that again. In the old days Bill Pate’s band “Just Us Four” would
play and it was great. I wish I had some pictures of them. You need to appreciate the things
like that more at the time. You think it will last forever but then you just turn around and
they’re gone. Good Night and Good Luck
Saturday the Inglis Yankeetown Lions Club held a pancake breakfast and flea market as a fund
raiser. Folks browsed the many items placed out for sale to help the club’s treasury for the
many local community projects they have funded over the years as well as the Lions regular
projects involving sight. . A pancake breakfast with all the trimmings was available for those
that ventured out early. Photo/story by Sally Price.
