Citrus Fire Chief clarifies fund-raising
by volunteer fire associations
To clear up confusion about donations to volunteer fire departments, Citrus
County FireChief Larry Morabito said Wednesday that the Citrus County Fire Service
does not solicit for donations to the Fire Service or any of the county fire department s
facilities located around the county.
Responding to questions from the public about solicitations for fund-raising
involving volunteer firefighter associations, Morabito said that those are civic and social
associations and separate from county government and the Fire Service.
“While those associations are made up of our wonderful Citrus volunteers, I
need to clear up any confusion about donations for them,” he said.
“The volunteers have been and will continue to be a most vital element in
our fire system, but their associations shouldn t be confused with county government.
Solicitations in a fundraiser done in the name of a volunteer firefighters association, for
example, for portrait photographs, are for that association and not the Citrus County
Fire Service, he said.
