A Guest Commentary by Mayor Dawn Clary
I’ve been asked to give a rundown on the referendum items on the upcoming election
ballot. There are four charter amendment questions and one advisory question. The follow-

Contact your favorite council member for any questions that you have on the upcoming
ballot. The ballot is available on the town website.
Amendment #1 on the ballot seeks to correct a problem that arose when we moved the

remove specific gender references from the charter language out of respect for the fact that
council members and mayors may be male or female. This is seen as a housekeeping change.

Question # 5 simply asks if swimming should be prohibited at the Winding River Park.

A vote of yes means swimming would not be allowed. This is not a charter amendment but is
called an advisory referendum question because the town council is not bound to any action.
