3th Annual Kids Fishing Clinic
Looking for Volunteers
Citrus County Parks & Recreation, Fish Florida and the Florida Fish & Wildlife
Conservation Commission are teaming up to put on the 13th annual Kid s Fishing Clinic
on February 25, 2017 at Fort Island Trail Park (12073 W. Fort Island Trail)from 9 A.M. to
2 P.M. This popular event teaches children the basics of environmental stewardship, fishing
ethics, angling skills, and safety. Your assistance is necessary to make our Kid s Fishing
Clinic a success. This is a great way to give back to the youth in our community. Please
consider giving your time by passing on valuable fishing knowledge.
Please consider one or both of the following ways to help:
Rod and Reel Assembly: We need volunteers to help us put together the rods and
reels we receive from Fish Florida on February 22, 2017 from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M. We will
have complimentary coffee & donuts available for everyone helping out.
KFC Event Day Help: We need volunteers to help out at the actual event on Febru-
ary 25, 2017 at 8:30 A.M. Volunteers are needed to teach the children how to fish, give out

Fishing changes in Gulf waters start Jan. 1
Starting Jan 1, several recreational fishing season changes in Gulf waters will go
into effect including:

Greater amberjack will open
·
Gray triggerfish will remain closed
·
Gag grouper will close in most Gulf waters.
See below for details on each season.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) manages marine fish from
the shore to 9 nautical miles in the Gulf of Mexico.
This week's featured photo is of Jay Bowler of Inglis with a keeper Redfish and Trout. Jay used
live shrimp. Jay left our shop at 8 am or so and came back at 9:45. He caught the fish wading.
