Crystal River High School Student Wins
Pet Patrol
“A+ For Teachers” Essay Contest
Crystal River High School 11th grader Shelby Mire (second from left) of Homo-
sassa, was one of seven winners of a national “A+ For Teachers at Downtown Disney®”
essay contest, conducted by the Downtown Disney® Resort Area Hotels and hosted in part-
nership with Walt Disney World® to honor outstanding teachers who were nominated by a
student. Winning essays were selected based on overall content, grammar and heart. Shelby
submitted an essay nominating her English teacher Robert Russo for his gifted teaching
skills and also for his service work in desolate villages in Africa during summer vacations.
Shelby and Mr. Russo each received a vacation prize package to the Walt Disney World®
Resort.
In her winning essay Shelby wrote, “Teachers lead you down a path; full of encour-
agement, empowerment, and knowledge. But for me, only one has made the most powerful
difference in my life. I’ve had Mr. Russo for the past two years and in that time he has taught
me more than just adjectives and Shakespeare in his English class. He has taught me essen-
tial characteristics of becoming a truly remarkable person. I remember the week when his
students were having a difficult time at home and were feeling a bit belittled. After venting
to him, he devoted the next day to telling them how much he believed in and loved them…

Lola, is a sweet, 5 #, s.f, 6-8 yo, red, medium  Chihuahua mix and Thaddeus, 3 yo, 6 #,
Africa), he’s a hero at home. His youngest son is a special needs child and he has three
haired Chihuahua of Pomeranian or Papil-  chocolate n.m. are looking for a home to-
older ones. He devotes all his energy and courage to keep his family strong, especially on
lionmix? She wants to be in a home with-  gether . They enjoy playing together, en-
the many trips to the hospitals… Mr. Russo’s devotion, love, and faith in everything he’s
out children and take advantage of being on  tertaining you day after day, along with
passionate about has inspired me to have a charitable character throughout life and use it for
your lap often and follow you all around. A  showering you with lots of love. They have
