"Searching for the Truth"
Christmas Tree Traditions
During the Middle Ages when many people did
not know how to read, the church held plays to teach bibli-
cal truths. The play performed during the Christmas season
was always about Adam and Eve. What do Adam and Eve
have to do with Christmas?
The play started with apples tied to an evergreen
tree. There were no apple trees in cold, wintry Germany,
so they used an evergreen tree with apples. Adam and Eve
chose rebellion against God and ate one of the apples. Im-
mediately, Adam and Eve knew their relationship with God
had changed and attempted to hide themselves, but God
came looking for them. God had to remove them from the beautiful garden. Sin has
been with us ever since. That is why we have death in the world; for the wages of sin is
death (Romans 6:23). But how can sin be paid for? Who could make us clean again?
Only one God's son.
Jesus' birth, which is celebrated at Christmas time, is all about paying the

As we come to the end of 2013, I reflect on everything that has happened in our

town since Commissioners Drew White (1 year term), Ann Morin and Sally Price (2 year
term) were elected in March. For one thing, we've had two commissioners resign - Com-
missioners Morin & Merritt, both of whom stepped down in September (Bob Goode and

Stephen Smalldridge were appointed in their place). Because appointed Commissioners
serve only until the next election, Commissioner Price's seat is the only one which won't be
up for election this coming March. The seats currently held by Commissioners Ely, Small-

the men who remained kept things together. They're getting some help - earlier this month,
