Citrus Hills Golf Club golf cart building
lost to fire with  Citrus CountyMillion loss   of Fire
$1.1 Sheriff s Office, Division
On Tues., Dec. 16, at 11:37 pm, the
Rescue responded to a complaint of the smell of smoke in the area of the Citrus Hills Golf
Club in the Hernando area. While firefighters were en route to the area, they were advised
by dispatch that a deputy was on the scene, and smoke and flames were visible.
A full alarm was activated with crews responding from Kensington, Hernando,
Inverness, Connell Heights, Homosassa and Pine Ridge. Squad 23 arrived first on-scene to
find a 6000 square foot steel structure fully involved with fire inside. The structure was used
to house the golf carts for the golf course. Due to the extent of the fire, crews attacked the
fire defensively from the outside. As crews arrived, they aggressively attacked the fire and
brought it under control at 1:26 am.
The use of a fire hydrant near the structure assisted greatly in the extinguishment
of the fire. No one was at the structure at the time of the fire. The State of Florida Fire Mar-
shall s office was notified and responded to investigate. The fire is still under investigation.
The structure, valued at $510,000, and its contents, valued at $600,000, were a total loss, the
combined totals in the amount of $1,110,000
