Sheriff’s Office Returns Money to County
With the close of fiscal year 2008-09, the Sheriff’s Office has finalized
its year-end budget and is returning $273,609.26 of the agency’s approved
operating budget to the county.
These monies represent funds that the Sheriff’s Office was able to generate
in fees, such as those associated with serving civil process or fulfilling public
records requests, or from savings realized by conservative measures taken on
essentials like fuel consumption.
Specifically, the more-than-a-quarter-of-a-million dollars was garnered Sheriff Dawsy
from the agency’s general fund ($142,109.55), as well as from its budget
component for Judicial Services ($131,499.71).
Sheriff Jeff Dawsy was quick to commend all of his employees for their diligence and

Citrus County, but the nation as a whole. This year’s returned funds exceeded those given by
the Sheriff’s Office in the wake of fiscal year 2007-08, which totaled $261,853.40.
For the current 2009-10 fiscal year, the Sheriff’s Office budget comes in at more than $1
million less than its approved budget for the previous fiscal year.
Dawsy is fully aware of the public’s concern with fiscal responsibility, especially during
these current economic times, and believes his agency consistently demonstrates as much
from year to year.
“This agency will continue to coordinate both its resources and expenditures to maintain
a financial position that is both prudent and fiscally sound,” the sheriff added.
Given the agency’s overall public safety mission, Dawsy stressed the importance he
