Stirs Debate at Meeting
At the Inglis commission meeting Dec. 2, 2014, Inglis Resident Rhonda Kline
questioned whether or not it was true that Town Employees were being allowed to take their
vehicles home, one of them going as far away as Sugarmill Woods in Citrus County. At
22:00 into the recording, the Mayor can be heard saying that the Public Works Director was
taking his truck home. Commissioner Smalldridge asked "Who authorized it?" to which the
Mayor replied that she had given him permission one time when his own truck was broken
down. A discussion followed, in which it was discovered that it was taking place on a regu-
lar basis. Again, the Mayor said, "I did, I authorized it on a regular basis!" Commissioner
Smalldridge replied that the Mayor did not have the authority to do that. Commissioner
Smalldridge goes on to make it clear that when the new trucks were purchased one of the
conditions that was established was that they "would not be allowed to go home" with em-
ployees so that they would maintain a low mileage over time and would last the Town as
well as hold a better value when sold.
Commissioner Ann Morin stated that this was the first she had heard of it (It was
her original request at a Special Meeting on June 4, 2014 to purchase two new trucks for
Public Works), with the understanding they would not be taken home in order to main-
tain low mileage and less-needed upkeep. This would also save the citizens gas money. At The Yankeetown Inglis Womans Club celebrated Christmas with a wonderful luncheon and a
