Deputy Battered  - Continued from page 1
Remembering the Past
A relative of the complainant and her daughter found Cleveland's vehicle parked in
the driveway of his Beverly Hills residence, and detectives were considering the possibility
that the woman and child had been abducted. However, the complainant told detectives that
her child is a student at an area elementary school, and there was the possibility that the child
had been dropped off there. A deputy who was already at the school was with Cleveland's
vehicle at the parent-child drop-off area, and all three (Cleveland, the woman and her son)
had been detained.
When the arresting deputy informed Cleveland that he was being detained and
approached him with handcuffs, Cleveland became infuriated, according to the report, and
shoved the deputy in the chest with both hands with enough force that the deputy had to
step back a couple steps to regain his balance. Cleveland refused to cooperate with the ar-
resting deputy, but said he would cooperate with the deputy who had been holding him at
the school. After the arresting deputy handed his handcuffs to the holding deputy, Cleveland
became cooperative, the report stated.
The woman said she'd been staying with her mother for a couple days, and Cleve-
land had contacted her that morning, trying to find his earrings. She said, since he never
entered the home and did not force she and her son to leave with him, she was unsure if she
wanted to prosecute him for the damage done to her vehicle. The report stated that the ve-
hicle in question was registered in the name of a relative of Cleveland, so this may be a civil
matter. However, the complainant said she wanted to file charges for the criminal mischief
(door and door fame damage). The child, in the presence of his mother, said that he was fine
and he'd not been forced to enter the vehicle. The report stated that Cleveland refused to
make a comment.

was standing in the mid-day sunlight, and he became concerned about it going into heat
distress. Deputy Gregory retrieved a cage from his home. The deputies then gently placed
