Black was extradited from Citrus County and booked into the Palm Beach County
Sheriff’s Office’s Main Detention Center in W. Palm Beach, FL at 4:47 a.m., Monday,
charged with homicide - murder not premeditated during other felony. His bond was
changed from $10,000 to none. He was booked under the name Jon Charles Black, with an
address “at large, FL.”
According to numerous media reports in the Palm Beach County area, Black made
a first appearance in a Palm Beach County court on Monday. He’s the suspect in the stab-
bing death of Charlene Nelson, a divorced secretary, artist, and mother of a then-6 year-old
boy. Ms. Nelson was reported as missing, by her father, on July 24, 1979, after she failed to
show up at work and and pick up her son from day care. Nelson’s father told police that his
daughter feared ‘Jon Good,’ the name that Black used in the Palm Beach County area dur-
ing that time. He said his daughter had lived with ‘Good’ for two years, and she was trying
to scrape together enough money to leave him. On July 25, Nelson’s body was found in a
pool of blood in one of her bedrooms. Blood was splattered all over the residence, along
with signs of a struggle. She was badly beaten and had multiple stab wounds to her chest
and abdomen. Nelson’s 1975 Ford Granada was later found in Orlando with Black’s wallet
inside, but he was not found until April 2011. Nelson’s ex-husband said that Black was a
