Letter to the Editor:
Re: Marshall Ballard Memorial
Marshall Ballard was one of those that was active in the community and loved by
many. It’s been said you can tell a lot about someone by the company that they keep.
On Saturday, October 23 at 11 am on the river, across from the Yankeetown Coast
Guard Station on an “oh so beautiful” day, there was quite a lot of not only company, but
“GOOD” company. The community in which we live celebrated the life of another of that
“GOOD” company taken so soon.
The Army, Marines, Sea Cadets, Girl Scouts, Marion County Sheriffs Dept, Coast
Guard, Masons, his family and many personal friends enforce the fact that I’m just glad that

the big day. Started about 7:30 AM and ended up at 8:30 PM. Cooked 25 pounds of fresh
ground pork and garlic, heated about 15 gallons of Monday’s sauce, made about 25 loaves
of fresh garlic bread from scratch, tossed 20 heads of lettuce, tomato, cuke salad, dished
out around 100 pieces of amazing dessert, made pots of coffee, buckets of tea, up

20 pounds of ice, set the tables, wrapped a hundred or so forks/spoons, fired up the outside
burners to cook 20 pounds of pasta and then turned on the music and opened the doors.

the things we do in our community, AND THANKS TO YOU IT’S WORKING!
