Duke Taxes  - Continued from page 1
Remembering the Past
case scenario where it was anticipated that Duke would make reduced payments and then
challenge their assessments.î said Greene. "Due to the leadership shown by the Board of
County Commissioners, other taxing authorities and due to the additional burden carried by
our homeowners and businesses, Citrus County has already avoided a fiscal crisis this year
based on Duke s partial payment of taxes."
Greene stated it is important to clarify that the recent court ruling on a single issue
does not represent a final judgment on the establishment of values for this company s assets
for 2012 or 2013. Green said he reviewed the implications of the Nov. 15 decision with legal
counsel and appraisal staff and directed his appraisal consultant to reconcile and finalize
their opinions of value in light of this judicial ruling. This should be completed soon.
The clarity the recent ruling brought to one of the issues in dispute may provide an
opportunity for resolution in mediation. "This office will only take action where clear legal
support exists, and such action best serves the interests of the citizens of Citrus County,"
said Greene.
