Inglis Proposes Talks to
Annex Duke Properties
From the November 3, regular meeting
Inglis Mayor Drinda Merritt asked at the November 3 commission meeting and got
approval to start talks with Duke Energy on the annexation into the Town of Inglis two of
Duke Energy's local properties. On her request is Duke's acreage bought north of Inglis for
their nuclear power plant project and the enclave property in Inglis where the old Florida
Power Inglis Steam plant use to be now a line training school of Duke Energy on Hwy 40
west of town hall. Merritt explained she had made contact with Duke Energy at the North
Florida Economic Development Partnership and started the possibility of resuming the talks
on this plan she presented in the past but did not fly. Merritt stated that Inglis would receive
$23,000 tax revenue a year annexing the enclave but in the past a zoning change from coun-
ty to the town did not sit well with many and talks stopped. Merritt said Duke was moving
ahead with the prospects of a nuclear project on the property north of Inglis even though the
current administration in Washington was not for nuclear, hoping that a change in attitude
would come with future elections even though it is looking at 20 years before start. Merritt
