DEA Drug Take Back
Homosassa home heavily damaged

At 10:31 am, Oct. 2 the Citru
responded to a structure fire at 6154 W. Monticello St. in Homosassa. Firefighters from
Connell Heights arrived on-scene at 10:36 am to find an approximately 1500 sq. ft. home,
with smoke showing from the roof. Firefighters confirmed that all occupants were out of the
home. Fire was located in the attic, above one of the bedrooms, and to the exterior of the
home. The fire was quickly extinguished. Firefighters confirmed that there was no further
extension of the fire into the home. Fire units from Connell Heights, Homosassa, Kensing-
ton, Pine Ridge, and Citrus Springs responded to the fire. A water shuttle was used to supply
water to for extinguishment due to a lack of hydrants in the area. The fire was placed under
control at 10:49 am, and the scene was cleared at 11:20 am. There were no injuries, and the
fire was ruled accidental. The home was valued at $82,500, and the loss to the home and its
contents was estimated at $61,625.

FEMA closing Disaster Recovery Center at West Citrus Center

The local FEMA Disaster Recovery Center (DRC), located at the West Citrus Cen-
ter, 1540 N. Meadowcrest Blvd, Crystal River, FL, was closed, October 27 at 6pm. How-
ever, the public can still stay in touch with FEMA. Many services available at DRCs are
also available by calling the FEMA helpline at 1-800-621-3362.
