Yankeetown General Store 1st annual Fishing Contest - 29 individual entries fishing in 13 boats regis-
tered for the newly formed annual event. Trout and Redfish were the targeted fish. Winners were: Trout
1st Place Kenny Hurst 2lb. 11oz. 20.25 in. long, 2nd Place Marshall Gilley 2lb. 5oz. 19.25 in. long. 1st
Place Redfish Bill Mason 7lb. 3oz. 26.25 in. long 2nd Place Redfish Teryll “Cooter” Dickinson 6lb. 9
“Newer comers” to the area Stan and Rachel Vanetten look on as the famous cooks fry the

dinner and reunion. Ashley Nicholson, Lester Green, Historian Dix Stephens, Beverly Risher,
Tom Nicholson and Lloyd Moore always volunteer for this important job to earn money to keep
the “gates to heaven” open for the many who will spend their last days in this sacred resting
place. It is not only a time for a great southern meal but to also tell tall tales and a few short
ones too. Roger Crossman and crew man the BBQ chicken out front for the land lovers. Many
more volunteer time and cooking talents to pull off this annual fund raiser. Cleaning 400 lbs
of fresh mullet is not that easy either.. If you missed it, you missed a good one. Newscaster/
