Ghosts of Florida/Georgia
Past
Florida and Georgia have
been playing football against
each other since 1906. The
game was moved permanently
to Jacksonville in 1933 and has
been played in that city every year since then
except in 1994 and 1995 when the teams
played in Gainesville, then Athens, because
Alltel Stadium was being remodeled. The
only other interruption was 1943 when nei-
ther university fielded a team because of the
war.
It is quite a spectacle, this game they
call the Worlds Largest Outdoor Cocktail
Party. At kickoff the stadium is split right
down the middle with orange and blue on one
side and red and black on the other.
