Accreditation - Continued from page 1
public safety communications. For the first time in 2013, the agency received a special
honor with the designation of “with excellence.”
Since 1979, the overall purpose of CALEA s accreditation programs has been to
improve the delivery of law enforcement services by offering a body of standards devel-
oped by practitioners, nationwide, and covering a wide range of up-to-date law enforcement
techniques. Both state and national accreditation programs recognize professional achieve-
ments, by offering an orderly process for addressing and complying with applicable stan-
dards. For example, there are 480 standards in the law enforcement accreditation program,
as opposed to the 260 standards set down by the state accreditation process.
Mandatory accreditation standards include all those that address life, health and
safety issues; legal matters; and essential law enforcement or public safety communications
practices, or conditions, that reduce high liability exposure. Achieving the prestigious goal
of accreditation, and reaccreditation, demonstrates an agency’s total commitment to pro-
fessionalism and excellence. In fact, less than 10% of all law enforcement agencies in the
United States are accredited.
Woman's Club Chili Cook Off
A big THANK YOU to those who attended the Yankeetown Inglis Woman’s Club
Annual Chili Cook-Off making it one of the best in years. Even though the weather was a
little warm, it didn’t stop the crowd from enjoying the many varieties of chili from members
and the community. Crock pots lined the walls as those attending filled their bowls with the
tasty concoctions. By the end of the day all the baked goods had been sold and crock pots
emptied. Like a well oiled machine the day ran smoothly, thanks to chairperson Yolanda
andher“crew”whofabulousjob.
