Figieri, 27, stated that she'd lived at the address for only about a month, and didn't know that
the lights were on illegally. A neighbor stated that she'd allowed the women to use her
electricity, but she'd pulled the plug when they failed to pay her for their usage. Bonner and
Figieri had both told her that a friend had hooked them up illegally. Bonner and Figieri were
placed under arrest, each charged with grand theft (greater than $300 but less than $5000).
Their bond was set at $2000.
Michael J. Hicks, 34, 471 N. Briarcreek Pt., Crystal River, was also arrested after
a Progress Energy meter inspector informed a deputy, that earlier that day, he'd found a
meter from a neighboring residence hooked up illegally to Hick's residence. He'd last
checked the residence on Aug. 11, when he'd unhooked illegal electrical service and warned
Hicks, that if it should happen again, he would contact police. The estimated loss was
$603.68.
Hicks denied being hooked up illegally. He said he'd been paying a neighbor for
the use of his electricity, and when he'd found the electrical meter back on that afternoon,
he'd planned to call police, but when he saw the meter inspector, he'd left the area, instead.
However, Hick's neighbor explained that Hicks had stolen a meter from a neighboring va-
cant residence and hooked it up to his residence, and he'd occasionally used his electricity,
but had mostly used the illegally hooked-up meter. When Hicks failed to pay a portion of
his electric bill, he'd unplugged the extension cord, but had since seen lights on inside
Hicks' apartment.
Hicks was charged with grand theft ($300 or more but less than $5000)
and theft of utility services. His bond was set at $2500.
