Remembering the past
Continued from page 1
I realize times change, but if a young man were to come in for a job interview with
me and he needed a shave and a comb, I would probably hit file13 with his application about
the time he walked out of my office. I canʼt imagine a police chief or a county sheriff, and
that includes our Inglis Police Chief Dixon, hiring someone who looks like they are protest-
ing against the Gillette Company.
The long hair is a source of amazement to me. I watch football, especially college
football, and I see players with scads of hair coming out beneath their helmets. Sometimes
a bushy mop and other times in braids. Not only does it look disgusting to me, but I would
think an opposing player would be tempted to drag me down by my hair if it were that long.
I mean, after all, it could be used as a handle for leverage.
Maybe my view on hair is affected by my childhood experiences. In about the sixth
or seventh grade I pulled a girls pony tail once while waiting in line at the lunch room. I
actually had a crush on the girl, the lovely Miss Alligood from Holder of all places. The high
school coach, Walt Conners, witnessed my moment of indiscretion and grabbed me by a
sprig of my hair, which was very short. I had a “crew cut” but Coach Conners found enough
to pull and it hurt like the dickens.
Maybe it is that experience with Coach Conners, maybe not, but anytime I see a
bushy mop or ponytail or braids, I have an urge to go get my hair cut really short.
Death of elderly siblings is likely due to
carbon monoxide poisoning
The bodies of an elderly brother and sister were discovered by a family member,
around 1:30 p.m., Oct. 4, at 62 W. Byrsonima Loop in Homosassa, after repeated telephone
calls went unanswered. Edward Czechowski, 88, and his sister Irene, 86, were last seen on
Sunday evening when they made a trip to the stores in their vehicle. The deaths did not ap-
pear to be suspicious, and there was no evidence of foul play.
The bodies were taken to the medical examiner’s office in Leesburg for autopsies,
and the preliminary reports appeared to be consistent with accidental carbon monoxide poi-
soning. The source of the carbon monoxide poisoning is believed to be a vehicle left running
