Burglaries  - Contnued from page 1
Pet Patrol
After a positive alert to the presence of drugs on both the vehicles by a K9 (police
dog), both were searched, and numerous suspicious items were found (credit cards and
other identification with varying names, along with electronics and other items) that were
later connected to seven conveyance (vehicle) burglaries and one residential burglary. Two
large knives were also found, between the drivers’ seat and the center console of Murphy’s
vehicle. Murphy was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, driving while license sus-
pended or revoked (knowingly), resisting an officer without violence and petty theft (the
officer s handcuffs). He was also cited for driving with a suspended license. He was held
without bond, as several stolen items were found in his possession. Black was taken into
custody on an arrest warrant for failure to return a leased/hired property with intent to de-
fraud. Her bond was set at $2,000.
Some of the property in the vehicles was linked to a property located at 937 SW
Bay Dr. in Crystal River. The theft had not been reported because the owner is an occasional
resident and was not aware of the theft, but wanted to pursue charges when the theft of his
home and boat was discovered. The items included a cooler, three Bass Pro fishing knives,
radar detectors, cell phones, tools, a registration belonging to the owner (in the cooler) and
several other items with a total value estimated at $1,000.
