At the January 21st Levy County Commission meeting, County Coordinator Fred

Moody announced receipt of a monument Placement Application and date of presentation

of Monument Placement Application. A group of Williston self proclaimed Atheists has

requested to place a granite bench in the area of the Ten Commandments monument.

The Levy Board of County Commissioners set Tuesday, Feb. 4 at 9 AM for a pub-

lic hearing to let citizens give input before the five member board votes. The City of Chief-

land has been updating their monument rules while their Ten Commandment monument is

on a historical tour. Part of the Chiefland requirements include assurance by groups placing

monuments is that they take responsibility in the event of a legal challenge instead of the

 

           

Gulf grouper recreational season will not close Feb. 1

            

This is a reminder that the Feb. 1 through March 31 closure that would have af-

        

fected several species of grouper in Gulf state waters has been removed and will not occur

as it has in previous years. This closure was removed at the September 2013 meeting of the

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC).

A similar closure was also removed in federal waters shoreward of the 20 fathom

line, or about 120 feet (excluding waters off Monroe County). To learn more about the fed-
