Citrus Animal Services shelter wins
Pet Patrol
5000 watt generator
The Citrus County Animal Services facility near Inverness has been notified that it
has won a 5,000 watt generator through the Power to the Paws program. Animal Services
Director Sandra Watson said the generator will be used during electric outages, especially in
hurricane season. Now the facility has only an old, small one for the shelter during hurricanes,
she said.
The generator will come from a nearby Honda dealership. The county’s animal shel-
ter uses PetPoint software and is part of the international Petfinder.com network. The genera-
tor was won through a Petfinder contest in which Animal Services employee Silvia Youman
had to describe how the generator would be used and how it would affect the facility’s ability
to respond in a disaster. She obviously did a good job, Watson said, adding that the generator
is not only critical for all the normal reason the facility needs power but also for refrigeration
of all the vaccines the facility must have on hand.
Petfinder.com said in its notification, “We are excited to be able to provide this
assistance to you as you continue in your tireless efforts to save adoptable pets. We hope
this will make things a little easier in the toughest of times…Keep up the great work.” To learn
