Citrus County Gets
a "Slice" of Springs
Clean Up Funds
It was a celebration Thursday
September 5th at Hunters Spring Park
in Crystal River as dignitaries spoke
on the announcement that $37 million
would be committed to the northern
portion of Florida for state springs
cleaning and restoration. Local elected
officials and citizens gathered to hear
the official announcement. Ten proj-
ects will be funded locally including
stabilization of shore lines at Hunters
and Three Sisters Springs to reduce
shorelines from falling into the springs.
Submerged aquatic vegetation will be
planted to remove some level of excess
nutrients. Four small package plants
for waste water treatment off Fort Is-
land Trail will be connected to the
municipal system to help reduce the
impact on springs in the Crystal River
