A traffic crash in Citrus County, Aug.  took
man Nicholas James Aaron Tarr, of Inverness, on leave from the United States Naval Acad-
emy at Annapolis, MD. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, preliminary information
led the investigator to believe the following circumstances lead to the crash: Tarr was travel-
ing south on Old Floral City Road in a 2003 Lincoln and failed to negotiate a curve in the
road near the intersection with Sandpiper Drive.
Tarr s vehicle traveled into the northbound lane and exited the east side of the road.
Tarr over-corrected, re-entered the roadway and began to rotate in a clockwise direction,
exited the west side of the road and struck a fence owned by Fort Cooper State Park and a
large tree. The force of the collision with the tree split the car into two pieces and ejected
Tarr, who was not wearing a seatbelt. The front portion of the car came to rest in the woods,
and the rear portion of the car came to rest in the southbound lane of Old Floral City Road.
Tarr received fatal injuries and expired at the scene of the crash.
The crash remains under investigation and details are subject to change.
