The Newscaster/Nature Coast News
By Sally Price, Newscaster Correspondent
The Sunrise Outpost, Unusually Fine Barbecue, sits on the south side
of Hwy 40 in Yankeetown. It was the former site of J T Enterpirse, a seafood processing
company run by Joe Catalano for years. Many long timers, locally and from Dunnellon and
Crystal River, fed their families with money they earned in these long standing buildings
picking crab meat and other seafood delights.
Several years ago Frank and Grace Hodge, formerly from Tavares, had a vision for
this unusual structure and purchased it to fulfill a dream. According to Grace, the couple are
lovers of sunrises and sunsets and spent many hours driving to view the start and end of the
day. They chose the name Sunrise Outpost for that reason. There was a slow
paced conversion by the couple, who waited for perfection in both atmosphere and food
before opening their venture.
The makeover of the building took place with decor fitting the small fishing village
the town was. Eye catching displays will keep you busy while waiting for the orders prepared
one at a time by Frank. Grace manages the front and greets everyone with that usual friendly
smile. Browse the used books, videos and Cd's on sale at a price you can't afford to pass up
