Area Police Beat
July 27 - Charles Rowland Bray, 55, a
homeless man in the Crystal River area,
was arrested by the Citrus County Sher-
iff s Office, July 27, charged with misde-
meanor petit retail theft (bond $250). He
is charged with taking a two-count box
of black pens, valued at $9.99, from State
Liquidations and Auctioneers, located at
628 S.E. Highway 19 in Crystal River.
Answering the call for service, the deputy
found Bray on a bicycle on the sidewalk
in front of the store. Bray allowed the dep-
uty to search his backpack, and the pens
were found inside it. Upon questioning,
the report stated that Bray said, ìI do not
know whose pens they are, but I found
them in the back of the Estate Liquida-
tion store.” He admitted that he’d been
inside the store, earlier that day. One of
the two people who were working inside
the store stated that she did not actually
see Bray take the pens, but he was look-
ing at the pens, and after he left, the two
pack of pens was gone, so she called the
sheriff s office. Upon further questioning,
Bray said, according to the report, ìYes, I
stole them.î He told the deputy that he was
