the undercover operation for six months and teamed with the Central Florida Internet Crimes
Against Children Task Force to enlist assistance from the Florida Department of Law En-
forcement, and the Marion, Sumter and Alachua County Sheriffís Offices. Chatters’ were
trained at the CCSO Emergency Operations Center to initiate undercover chat investigations
and establish undercover profiles and identities.
Operation Cyber Guardian started on July 11, and concluded on July 17. Chat ses-
sions were conducted during the earlier part of the week, when undercover detectives posed
as juvenile males or females, or parents and/or siblings of minors who were seeking sexual
instruction for the children.’ Personal ads also were posted on several websites which fea-
tured a young mother (pretending to be) seeking people to teach her teenager how to please
a man and share in intimate family fun. Several Internet chat sites frequented by children
were also used.
Arrests began on July 13, when undercover chatters’ gave the suspects driving
directions to an undercover residence in Inverness where they were to meet. Four arrests
