An aerial search to locate illegal marijuana grows by the Levy Coun-
ty Sheriff s Office Drug Task Force, in conjunction with the Army National
Guard, July 20, resulted in the arrest of a Morriston man who had a marijuana
cultivation operation worth a quarter million dollars. Mark O’Leary, 60, 14171
S.E. 25th St., Morriston, was arrested for cultivation of marijuana. He was in-
carcerated at the Levy County Jail where his bond was set at $50,000.
According to Major Evan Sullivan, Capt. Danny Riffle, who has spot-  O'Leary
ted and seized millions of dollars worth of drugs for the sheriff s office since
1983, spotted numerous marijuana plant growing in the area of S.E. 25 Street, off Hwy.
121. Deputies on the ground responded to the area and confiscated 247 marijuana plants.
The homeowner, Mark O’Leary, consented to a search of his residence, where a small in-
door marijuana growing operation was found, along with a rifle. O Leary has been arrested
three previous times for marijuana cultivation, in 1971, 1984 and 2004.

Gulf Beach remains open to swimming as of July 22
The Citrus County Environmental Health Department said on July 22 that bacte-
rial samples at the Ft. Island Gulf Beach Park remained at a good level in the most recent
test.
That means the county park beach remains open for swimming until next week
when more water sampling will be done. The water is tested each week on Wednesday
morning, and if the samples are too high, the Health Department issues an advisory against
swimming and no swimming signs will be posted.
For more information on water quality in relation to swimming, call the Citrus
County Health Department at 352-527-5283
