Inglis Man Killed in Motorcycle Crash

Sixty-two-year-old Joseph A. Pickett of Inglis died in a motorcycle accident
Wednesday afternoon (7-17-13) on County Road 40A/ West of SW 60th Avenue in Inglis.
According the the FHP report, Pickett was traveling westbound on CR 40 A. and steered
in a southwesterly direction into the eastbound lane in an attempt to pass a vehicle in front
of him. “The operator (Pickett) failed to use due care while passing and steered off of the
roadway in a southwesterly direction onto the south grass shoulder” the report stated.
The 2005 Kawasaki, Victory traveled in a westbound direction on the south grass
shoulder where it approached the paved driveway to the Saint Anthony Catholic Church.
The motorcycle became airborne and landed on the west paved driveway. The motorcycle
then traveled in a southwesterly direction on the south grass shoulder west of the paved
driveway where it overturned onto its left side. Picket regained control and continued to
travel in a southwesterly direction on the south grass shoulder. The report stated Picket was
thrown from the motorcycle. Pickett was pronounced deceased as a result of his injuries at
Ocala Regional Medical Center on 07/17/2013 shortly before 4 pm.
