In Crystal River: Pete's Pier repair

project to begin after Labor Day
The Citrus County Commission authorized its staff on July 7 to coordinate with the city
of Crystal River for the repair of the Pete's Pier Boat Ramp. The action was taken at a July 7
special meeting, which was a continuation of the June 23 regular meeting that was cut short
because of a power outage.
Pete's pier and its parking lot are private, although the boat ramp is public and
owned by the city. The project will rebuild the ramp and repair its dock facilities. The city
will take the lead in the project and will be meeting with county staff in coming weeks to
get the project started after Labor Day. The same contractor who did the Homosassa boat
ramp will be doing the Pete's Pier ramp.
The city will be responsible for 40 percent of the repair costs, not to exceed
$68,100, and the county will be responsible for 60 percent of the cost, at $102,150, for a
total cost of $170,250. The money will come from Florida Boating Improvement Program
funds. County Administrator Brad Thorpe said that fund will still have enough to repair the
Chassahowitzka boat ramp and do the planning and permitting for the ramp proposed for the
former barge canal, now referred to as the Cross Florida Greenway canal.
