"SAVE THE ROCK"
I am a passionate person
about many subjects. When it
comes to history I really get
turned on. As a child I would
go with the neighbor in St Pete to visit her
daughter going to college in Gainesville.
We would stop and eat breakfast at the
Port Inglis Restaurant and laugh and say
"how could anyone live in a place like
this."
Before 1960 my parents bought
a place on the south side of the river and
not long after, found myself "living in a
place like this." I got my start environ-
mental fighting around age 15 (I am 61
now) with the pre-Withlacoochee Area
Residents (WAR) group who later formed
a very viable strong passionate group.
I always called myself Pre-BC when I
spoke (before barge canal).
I have seen many changes come
and go in the area. History does repeat
itself, that is one good reason to study
history. If you can learn a lesson from
someone else's mistakes and not have to
make them yourself, it is wise to do so.
In today's article I am calling your
attention to one of the most significant
