Former treasurer accused of stealing
money from CRHS  Ave., Crystal River, was arrested by the
Band Boosters
Melissa Dawn Colegrove, 38, 1131 NE 5th
Citrus County Sheriff s Office, June 15, charged with felony grand theft of $300 or more,
but less than $5,000
The report stated that the two complainants were board members of the Crystal
River High School Band Boosters. They stated, that on or about April 16, 2016, they learned
that Colegrove, the former band boosters treasurer, had been stealing money from the band
booster's Brannen Bank account.
They learned about the theft when they received a bank statement showing a nega-
tive bank balance and looked into recent transactions. The transaction history, according to
the report, revealed that Colegrove had been using the account debit card, which she had
been entrusted with, to make personal purchases and pay personal bills in locations that
included Duke Energy, T.J. Maxx, Walmart, Bealls department store and Amazon, "to name
a few."
The personal business totaled $3,468.26 - $300 in Nov. and $388.04 in Dec.
(2015); $1,130.60 in Jan., $357.65 in Feb., $531.49 in March and $760.48 in April (2016).
Remaining board members, plus Colegrove, had a meeting in which Colegrove
was informed in a letter, that if she had not paid the money back by May 11, 2016, the board
would contact the sheriff s office with the evidence.
