missioner JJ Kenney as he talked about what the New Transit Center will mean for County
residents. “This is the perfect example of County and State governments working together
for the betterment of our citizens.”
With shovels in hand, County leaders along with representatives from FDOT and
TBARTA kicked off the construction project this morning with the ceremonial shoveling of
the dirt.
The Transit Center will be located in the front of the County Maintenance Com-
plex off CR 491 in Lecanto. The 9,000 sq. ft. building will be a transportation and bus sta-
tion and is funded through a Florida Department of Transportation grant totaling $2.338 M.
The building is hardened to Cat 3 Hurricane Standards and will serve as the Coun-
ty Operations Center in the event a major storm hits our area. The project is expected to be
completed April 2013.
