Power of One! Update
Special to The Newscaster by Ruth Rupert
This is a great community in which we live – people understand it is our students
that are our future. They are well worth the investment we make in money and time (please
write the Governor and let him know how you feel). The hometown folks have helped with
the Pigeon Key Project and now the “Power of One” Program.
The “Power of One” Program is for 2nd - 4th graders at the Yankeetown School,
which is located in Inglis. 100 students with one job and one major goal... all (100%) of
Yankeetown students to graduate from High School (classes of 2017, 2018 and 2019). To
participate in the “Power of One”, the students are required to write “one letter, once a
month”. The students HANDWRITE the letter and get it to the Inglis Post Office (ONLY the
Inglis Post Office). Envelopes and stamps have been donated just for this use. Who
donated the stamps and envelopes? The Inglis Post Office employees and folks like you.
Yes – an investment in our youth. The students are honing their life skills, and the stamps
they pick out all tell a story about America. Some of you have received letters from these
students and you have written back. Now you know why they've written over 230 letters
from March 19th through April 25th! Although we still have some, the jar of donated stamps
