a non-salaried volunteer - as are all employees of the food bank - who works so hard he had
only two days off last year, Christmas and Thanksgiving!
Produce is brought into a prep room which has a manual conveyor belt that will
hold up to 150 boxes. Produce is immediately sorted-through before being placed in the
large refrigerator, and overly-ripe or rotting items are removed. The prep room will also be
used for filling boxes of food for pickup on food distribution days.
To clear up the confusion as to the differing functions of the two agencies, guides
explained that the Community Food Bank of Citrus County supplies food to the various
agencies and food banks in the area that, in turn, deliver the food to individuals, while The
We Care Food Pantry is one of those agencies, a food bank, which distributes its food to its
individual clients on the west side of the county - currently a whopping 2,600 clients per
month - but not to other agencies unless it receives a donation larger than it’s capacity, and

then the food bank hustles to make arrangements with the other food banks for pickup, and
no food is ever wasted!
