Town Clean Up Begins
Remembering the past
A number of properties have been declared derelict, abandoned or just trashed over
time and the town is making an effort to work with and help owners clean up these places.
Obier is sending out notices a few at a time offering help or advise in cleaning up these
properties to motivate the owners to conform to the program.
John and Willodine Wilkinson who owned the unoccupied older mobile at 72 El-
kins Rd signed the waivers and will soon have the eyesore removed. Jesus Is! Ministries
workers assisted in the removal project. Many people who received letters have begun their
own clean up. There are a few property owners who have not responded after several re-
quests. If compliance is not met, other measures would have to be used. Obier is available
at the town hall if you want help. This is a program that will restore some pride to the Town
of Inglis and the citizens.
Game Warden James Oliver Hudson patrolled the woods for 30 years of his life retiring July 1,
1976 as a Conservation Officer with the Game and Fresh Water Fish Commission. “Buster” as
everyone knew him, knew the woods and most every person who hunted in them. According
to Mary Jarvis Hudson, who became his wife several years after his retirement, Buster was
born opposite Yankeetown School in a house that was painted white with lye. The home was
on land that later became Sherwood Forest Subdivision after the canals were cut. Prior to his
state job Buster served in the military in the Aleutian Islands and France. This man, who was
a legend, passed on to a greater hunting ground January 20, 2004. - For more history photos
