Unemployment drops
to lowest rate in 5 years
(OCALA) – The jobless rate in February
for Workforce Connection’s Citrus, Levy
and Marion counties region was 8.5 per-
cent, down 0.6 percent from January’s
rate, 2.1 percentage points lower than the
same time last year and 4 percent less than
February 2011.
These are the lowest unemploy-
ment rates for the region since July 2008.
For the third consecutive month,
the Ocala Metropolitan Statistical Area
(MSA), which covers all of Marion Coun-
ty, posted the fastest job-growth rate in
Florida at 3.4 percent, with 3,100 new jobs
over the year. Florida’s job-growth rate
during the same period was 1.9 percent.
According to today’s release of
the February 2013 unemployment rates by
