Boat destroyed by fire, operator injured
At 3:40 p.m., April 16, Citrus County Sheriff s Office, Division of Fire Rescue
responded to a boat fire associated with an explosion at Homosassa Riverside Resort located
at 5297 S. Cherokee Way in Homosassa. Engine 31 from Homosassa arrived on-scene at
3:53 p.m. to find a 20 ft., center console, outboard boat in a canal directly behind the launch
ramp fully involved in fire. Engine 31 and Brush 71 quickly brought the fire under control
despite some access issues to the fire area.
The 60 year old male operator of the vessel had been injured in the explosion and
was treated by Nature Coast EMS Medic Unit on scene. He was airlifted for further medical
treatment. Engine 71 and Tanker 71 secured a landing zone for medical airlift of the injured
man by Bay Flight. Two engines, one tanker, one brush truck, and the Battalion Chief were
assigned to this incident. The fire was under control at 4:00 p.m. Florida Wildlife Commis-
sion, Florida State Fire Marshal, and sheriff s office officials responded to investigate. The
vessel was a total loss.
Eight rescued from Dunnellon home fire
At 4:44 a.m., April 19, Citrus County Sheriffís Office, Division of Fire Rescue
responded to a structure fire at 11381 Linda Marie Ter. in Dunnellon. Engine 91 from the
DeRosa Fire Station arrived on-scene at 4:55 a.m. to find a 2500 square foot manufactured
home 15% involved with fire, and smoke showing on the front exterior. A fast interior attack
