The Hernando Branch of the Inverness Lions Club recently conducted a food drive for four
local food banks in Citrus County. Their efforts produced over 400 pounds of grocery items
and over $500 in cash donations. All proceeds will go to Citrus County Family Resource
Center, Citrus United Basket (CUB), Citrus Blessings in a Backpack Program and the Citrus
We Care Food Pantry. The club thanks the Inverness Walmart and the Citrus Hills Publix for
letting them conduct the food drive at their locations. Pictured with the food items collected
from left to right are Sue Mitchell, Hernando Lions Club President and Frank Sojka, Club Tail
Twister.
Neighborhood Stabilization Sales Continue
The Citrus County commission has approved the sale of two more properties in the
Neighborhood Stabilization Program. Both in Citrus Springs, one is selling for $90,000 and
the other for $75,000.
In the program the county’s Housing Division uses federal grant money to buy
foreclosed homes that are subsequently rehabbed by local contractors and then sold by local
Realtors. Low to moderate income residents who can qualify for a mortgage are able to buy
the fixed-up homes at bargain prices and any proceeds can be used to get more foreclosed
homes.
The goal of the program is to get the foreclosed homes back into private ownership
and back on the tax rolls. Local homebuyers, local contractors, local title companies, local
Realtors and neighborhoods facing foreclosure blight all benefit, program officials note.
Citrus is currently has 27 homes in the program.
Death Investigation Ongoing in Citrus County
(Inverness) At 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Citrus County Sheriff s Office deputies were dis-

Street address. Next of kin was notified of her death.
Detectives, along with crime scene technicians, were called to the location and
during the course of their initial investigation and processing of the scene for possible
