March Unemployment
Drops to Lowest in Years
From CLM Workforce Connection
Joblessness in Citrus, Levy and
Marion counties dropped in March, fol-
lowing a statewide trend that saw decreas-
es in unemployment over the year in 61 of
67 counties, according to today’s release
of unemployment data from the Florida
Agency for Workforce Innovation (AWI).
That trend, coupled with growth
in the labor force and increases in the
numbers of those with jobs may signal
that Florida’s economy has turned the cor-
ner.
Unemployment in the three-
county region fell to 12.1 percent, down
0.07 percent since February and a de-
crease of 1.3 percent over the year. The
rate fell from 13.2 to 12.5 percent in
Marion County – the lowest it has been
since December 2008. In Citrus County,
the rate dropped from 12.2 to 11.6 percent
and from 11.4 to 10.8 in Levy County.
Out of a labor force of 208,604,
there were 25,184 unemployed residents
in the region; at the same time, the num-
ber of those with jobs was 183,420, up by
nearly 2,500.
