week under the direction of Matt Weldon, Levy County Parks and Recreation Director and
County Commissioner Sammy Yearty. The ramp is hid from regular traffic at the end of Allen
Park Road which is the dirt road that goes west at the 4 corner stop signs in Yankeetown. This
ramp is mainly used by air boaters as the channel is usually shallow and has some hidden
snags. Folks that like to canoe and kayak can enjoy a real trip back to nature in this twisting
maze of sawgrass paths that intertwine north all the way to Waccassa and Cedar Key and
south back to Hwy 40. For a paddle on the wild side, be and sure to take the GPS. Once up in
the swamp, all sawgrass trails start to look the same.Photo by Sally Price
Valentine Steak Dinner & Dance
On Saturday Feb. 16, the Inglis/Yankeetown VFW Post 8698 had a very successful and
fun Valentine Dinner & Dance. They served approximately 90 New York Strip Steaks, cut and
cooked to order by Joe Torres, VFW member, and Phil Cooper of the VFW Men's Auxiliary.
The VFW Lady's Auxiliary prepared seating, served guests, and provided clean up, under the
leadership of bar manager Paulette Cooper. The 6-member band, the "Nostalgics," provided
live entertainment. Your local VFW is planning to host similar events on a monthly basis.
