was being dishonest during their investigation, according to the MCSO.
Several students told detectives they had observed Pacana's behavior with the vic-
tim. They said Mr. Pacana was very close with the victim and they had watched him touch
her on her shoulder and thigh, that he'd sang songs to her, and once, he'd bought her lunch.
One student told detectives that Pacana had made an inappropriate comment to the victim
when she'd worn a new dress to school.
According to the MCSO, Pacana voluntarily went for an interview at the agency's
Operation Center on Monday and denied any inappropriate conduct with the girl, although
he admitted he was in the classroom at the time of the alleged incident. However, Mr. Pacana
was taken into custody on the charge and incarcerated at the Marion County Jail, Monday
afternoon, and was released on $5,000 bond that evening.
According to an interview by WFTV, Orlando, spokesperson Kevin Christian, Pub-
lic Relations and Communications Officer with the Marion County School District, Mr. Pa-
cana was placed on paid leave, Feb. 10, the day the allegations were brought forth, pending
investigation of the allegations against him. He said that Mr. Pacana was hired by the school
district in Nov. 2015, and had passed background checks, had positive references, and has
had no disciplinary action within the school district.
According to the school district Mr. Pacana has a masters of Education, teaches
geometry and math for college readiness and is the faculty sponsor for the Fellowship of
Christian Athletes at Dunnellon High School. Prior to teaching at Dunnellon High School,
Mr. Pacana had taught math and algebra at Yankeetown Middle School(2013). In the possi-
bility there are other victims, the MCSO is asking anyone who is, or knows, a victim of Mr.
Pacana, to call Detective Lightle at 352-369-6715, or 352-368-STOP, and reference 17-26.
