Man charged with Air Conditioner thefts
A 20 year-old homeless man, Wesley David Godwin, was arrested by the Citrus
County Sheriff’s Office, at a Dunnellon shopping plaza, Nov. 27, just before 10:30 p.m.,
charged with grand theft.
The report stated that a deputy was dispatched to the Sunkist Plaza, located at 2802
W. Dunnellon Rd., with a report of a theft which had just occurred. The owner of the plaza
told the deputy that he was walking behind the plaza after the shopping center had closed
and saw two people who attempted to hide from him, then fled on foot. He walked to the
area where he’d seen the two people and saw that five of the six air conditioning units con-
nected to the plaza had been dismantled. The victim said each air conditioning unit was
worth approximately $4,000.A canine deputy searched the area and located Godwin hiding
in the woods in the area of N. Elkcam Blvd. and N. Condor Dr. Godwin admitted to a deputy
that he and the other suspect were attempting to steal the air conditioning units at Sunkist
Plaza when they were interrupted by the victim. He said they both fled and hid in the woods
until he was found. Godwin was placed under arrest and transported to the Citrus County
Detention Facility. His bond was set at $2,000.
On. Nov. 29, Godwin was additionally charged with grand theft of two air condi-
tioning units at a Dunnellon residence located on N. Loni Ter., sometime between Nov.
16th and 20th. The report stated that a window-mounted air conditioning unit valued at
$500 was removed and a large stationary unit valued at $2,000 was dismantled, rendering it
useless.
The victim, a resident of a nursing home, was contacted. He said he wanted to
press charges, so Godwin was charged with grand theft of the N. Loni Ter. residence. His
bond on the second case was $4,000.

cannabis, and possession of drug paraphernalia (glass pipe). His bond was set at $21,000.
The couple was arrested on July 28 on the previous drug trafficking charges. More
than 250 cannabis plants, with a street value of over $250,000, were seized from their Citrus
Springs home.

led investigators to suspect that another vehicle was involved. The vehicle had been reported
as stolen from Altamonte Springs.
Six employees and no customers were inside the bank at the time of the robbery.
No one was injured. Witnesses described the suspects as between 5 feet 8 to 10 inches tall,
with lean builds, but so completely concealed that no further description was possible. As
a precaution, Floral City Elementary School was put on lockdown, area camps and daycare
centers were notified, and a Code RED (reverse 911) alert was issued for the community to
