Memories of
Christmas

Christmas is a spe-
cial time of year for me and
my memories are a reason
Christmas is such a wonder-
ful occasion for me.
Growing up in a
small town (Inverness) in the 1950’s and
60’s may have been the precise time and
place in this universe that was closest to
being Utopia. Of course we had poverty,
tragedies did occur and there were peo-
ple who had the misfortune of being in
poor health. But we had a peace of mind
in those days knowing that we lived in a
community that was safe, where we could
always be rewarded for doing the right
thing and there were not many gray areas
in our lives. You knew right from wrong.
You knew who the bad guys were. You
knew that it was a good thing to conform
to accepted social practices. It was a much
simpler time.
Our  Christmas  started  after
Thanksgiving. The first weekend in De-
