IRS scam hits Citrus County

Our dispatch center is receiving tons of calls reference this latest IRS scam. Here's
how it works: Scammers posing as IRS officials call your home, saying you or someone in
your family owes taxes and needs to pay up. They threaten to arrest or deport people, revoke
a license, or even shut down a business.
How do they do it? By rigging caller ID information to appear as if the IRS is
calling, and sometimes even making a follow-up call claiming to be the police or the DMV
(Department of Motor Vehicles). There are different variations of the scam: robo calls from
