What can I say, this has been a phenomenal week. To start off with, the town of

of the town and found that "IWI has failed to establish that the Town is non-compliant with
the Public Records Act ".
Next, Carl Mazzuca, who argued that he was confused by charter amendments that
had been placed on the October 30th ballot, lost in his effort to deprive citizens of the chance
to vote. His legal argument was that the town had not given proper notice and cited a Florida
Statue that set requirements for special elections and referendums "not otherwise provided
for". The town had followed the posting and notification requirements of a statue which the
court deemed was more specific to charter amendments and found that sufficient notice had
been given. All the amendments were allowed to go forward in the election and everyone had
the chance to cast their ballot, one way or the other.
All of the charter amendments passed. This means that the town has moved to a
truly strong Council, weak Mayor form of government. Also, the citizens of the community
will have more direct control over land use issues in their town as some amendments to the
charter will require referendums to make certain changes to the town's Comprehensive Plan.
While some had argued that many people would not vote on the amendments, it appears that
the vote on the amendments was every bit as strong as it was for the candidates.
This brings us to what may be the big story in this election, the turnout. Both sides
apparently energized their supporters and the turnout was humongous. It seems at times that
Americans take their right to vote for granted and as shocking as it is, some individuals even
fight against the right to vote as was shown in the request to not allow the amendments to be
voted on. One thing that is surprising after you get into the government is how much work an
election is. There are so many who deserve credit and Thanx, but I would like to express a
special Thanx to our Town Clerk Laura Coyle. It was her first election as Town Clerk and she
