cars waiting in the McDonald's drive-
thru before coming to a stop, the Mer-
cury having become inoperable. Depu-
ties were able to pull Mansfield out
of the car through the window of the
Mercury. Emergency medical services
Mansfield
responded to the scene, but medical
services were refused by all parties in-
volved in the crashes. The CCSO report stated there
were no injuries.
The arresting deputy reported that Mans-
field's eyes were dilated and glossy, and he was slur-
ring his words. He told the deputy that he hadn't
stopped because he was frightened. He admitted to the earlier traffic crash and of leaving the
scene. He refused to submit to roadside sobriety testing. A Florida Highway Patrol troooper
arrived at the scene of the secondary crashes and completed the crash report for the earlier
crash. At the jail, Mansfield refused to submit to blood or urine testing for alcohol/drugs,
but cooperated with the breath alcohol testing, and the results were 0.000 and 0.000.
The Mercury's tag had expired on Dec. 15 (2015), and Mansfield was issued a traf-
fic citation for this ($166 fine); he was also issued a DUI traffic citation and a citation for
fleeing and eluding - all three requiring a court appearance.
Veteran journalist and nature writer Ernest Lyons' first book My Florida was published in
1969. Soon after the publishing, the author with his wife appeared at the Yankeetown Womans
Shrimp Landing
Club for a book signing. Mrs. C W Yaudis of Inverness had Lyons sign her book as Yankeetown
Woman's Club President Kitty Hellberg looked on. My Florida is a compilation of Lyons' col-
umns he wrote as a writer for a newspaper in Stuart Florida. He served there as an award
