Motorcycle/SUV crash critically injures motorcyclist
A crash between a vehicle and a motorcycle, Dec. 28, resulted in critical injuries to
the driver of the motorcycle, 22 year-old Paul Fassold of Crystal River, who was transported
to Ocala Regional Medical Center in Ocala for treatment. The crash occured in northern
Homosassa at 12:26 pm. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 26 year-old Rene Cruz,
Jr., of Homosassa, was driving a 2009 Ford Flex SUV, towing a small utility trailer, traveling
south on U.S. Hwy. 19 (S. Suncoast Blvd.) and turned left onto W. Highland St., entering
into the path of the 2008 Honda motorcycle driven by Mr. Fassold, which was traveling
north on U.S. Hwy. 19. As a result, the motorcycle collided with the trailer towed by the
Ford Flex, ejecting Mr. Fassold from the motorcycle, which came to final rest on the east
shoulder of the roadway. Both northbound lanes of traffic were closed and a left turn lane
was utilized to facillitate the movement of traffic. The report stated that Mr. Fassold was not
wearing a helmet. Mr. Cruz, who was wearing a seatbelt, was not injured in the crash.
The press release stated that charges are pending.
